About this grant
Increasing community needs and funding pressures are prompting nonprofit organizations to strengthen governance and management and be innovative in securing financial resources. At the same time, businesses are seeking greater involvement in addressing community issues, recognizing that community involvement offer opportunities for them. Business Volunteer Unlimited (BVU), based in Cleveland, serves businesses and nonprofit organizations by promoting effective volunteerism and strengthening leadership. Funding will enable BVU to replicate it program in up to 12 sites throughout the United States. BVU will provide services including managing and implementing programs; offering consulting services to businesses in community service program development; training business executives for nonprofit board service and placing them on nonprofit boards; exploring funding options; and publishing print and Web-based promotional and informational materials.BVU, formed in 1993, prepares and refers business volunteers for service on nonprofit boards; involves professionals in providing volunteer management assistance to nonprofits; and channels thousands of employees and their families to a variety of well-organized direct service volunteer activities.
