About this grant
Since its founding in 1997, the Civil Society Institute has been working to strengthen civil society in Ukraine by building the capacity of institutions that can promote a more favorable legal framework for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-level civic initiatives; encouraging citizens to hold public officials accountable; and helping people protect their rights.Multiyear funding will enable the institute to conduct trainings and seminars and provide educational materials regarding nonprofit law, regulatory legislation and nonprofit sector issues to new parliamentarians elected in 2006; educate the public about their rights through print and the Web; and monitor and analyze current and proposed legislation related to the nonprofit sector and citizens’ rights.During the past two years, the institute focused on improving the legal framework for the nonprofit sector and civic initiatives; publishing and disseminating information on a variety of issues such as taxation, family and inheritance law, the judicial system and the role of parliament; and monitoring and analyzing current legislation and draft laws.
