About this grant
Positive signs in the development of civil society in Ukraine need to be encouraged. Currently, there is a need to build the capacity of institutions that are effective public advocates and can influence policy on creating a more favorable legal framework for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) activities and community-level civic initiatives, as well as on promoting citizen involvement in holding public officials accountable and defending their rights.Multiyear funding will support objectives that include improving the legal framework for the nonprofit sector and civic initiatives; informing citizens of their rights and existing legal mechanisms to protect them; and monitoring and analyzing current legislation and draft laws.The Civil Society Institute, established in 1997, works to publish and distribute quality citizens’ rights publications; provide training; organize public hearings; and conduct research and analysis on civil society issues.
