About this grant

Despite tremendous development since 1989, the nonprofit sector in the Czech Republic is still not recognized by the general public. The overall attitude toward the nonprofit sector is still influenced by a lack of understanding of its purpose and role in democratic society. One of the reasons for this is the critical lack of objective empirical data on Czech non-governmental organizations (NGOs).Multiyear funding will support the establishment and operation of the Center for Nonprofit Sector Research, a joint initiative of Trialog, the Brno Institute for the Development of Civil Society and the Masaryk University in Brno. The main objectives of the center are to launch systemic and permanent research on the Czech nonprofit sector; make the findings and analyses widely available; and enhance both the presentation of and the dialogue about the Czech nonprofit sector.Trialog, established in 1998, works to develop civil society through the cooperation of the three sectors — public, private and non-governmental.
