About this grant
This grant will enable the Community Chest of the Western Cape to provide capacity-building support to community initiatives aimed at development and poverty alleviation in order to ensure that they are able to access funding. The Community Chest makes small grants to community-based organizations in the Western Cape.Multiyear funding will support efforts to enhance the capacity of rural and urban grassroots projects through training, mentoring and financial support; advocate to ensure that donor funds are more widely distributed and more effectively utilized in communities with limited resources; develop the skills, knowledge and capacity of welfare and community service organizations to more effectively respond to the changing needs of communities; and build partnerships with other grantmakers to support capacity building and start-up funding for community-based organizations.Accomplishments during the past two years included training more than 1,000 community workers in the areas of governance, project management, fundraising and bookkeeping; providing training and support to almost 60 community-based organizations in the Western and Southern capes to enhance their capacity to mobilize resources and implement various projects; and conducting grant application workshops to assist community-based organizations to access funding.
