About this grant
The Foundation for Human Rights was established with support from the European Union to implement a human rights funding program in South Africa. It has since evolved into one of the most significant indigenous grantmakers in the country supporting the development and strengthening of a culture of human rights in South Africa. It still receives the bulk of its funding from the European Union, but is looking increasingly to local funders to secure its long-term sustainability. Mott has provided institutional support to the grantee, as well as funding for its programmatic work in areas related to Mott’s own grantmaking interests in the paralegal and advice office sector, race and ethnic relations, and reconciliation. This grant will continue to provide general purposes support to the Foundation for Human Rights, specifically focused on strengthening its role as an indigenous grantmaker and expanding and growing its local sources of funding.
