About this grant

The Foundation for Human Rights was established with support from the European Union to implement a human rights funding program in South Africa. It still receives the bulk of its funding from the European Union and is one of the most significant grantmakers in the country supporting the development and strengthening of a culture of human rights. Mott has supported the Foundation for Human Rights to strengthen its internal capacity and has contributed to its research programs. This grant will provide general purpose support to the grantee to improve awareness of constitutional rights with an emphasis on socioeconomic rights and on vulnerable groups; enhance participatory democracy through public policy dialogues on constitutional rights; increase research on socioeconomic rights; and strengthen the capacity, engagement, and participation of civil society organizations in the realization of constitutional rights. The grantee will also make grants to community advice offices and design and implement programs that promote their sustainability.
