About this grant

In order to be financially sustainable, the nonprofit sector in South Africa needs a strong legal and fiscal enabling environment, good fundraising skills, effective organizational and program management, and income-generating potential. Multiyear funding will support financial sustainability training, legal support services and advocacy for a stronger legislation. Financial sustainability training will include an intensive five-day training workshop, followed by mentoring and support. Legal support services will focus on assisting nonprofits with legal compliance. Advocacy will include legal and fiscal research to explain issues related to policies; promote communication to keep the sector aware of legislative changes and their impact; encourage nonprofit compliance with new legislation; and comment on proposal legislation that has relevance to the sector. The Non Profit Consortium, established in 1998, works to strengthen the legal and fiscal environment for the South African nonprofit sector and to improve the sector’s financial sustainability.
