About this grant
This grant will enable University Outreach – directed by the University of Michigan-Flint – to continue the Flint Area Technology and Internet Access Initiative. The goals of the initiative include connecting parents and teachers in order to share information and support student achievement; providing families access to technology as a support mechanism to address challenges of daily living; helping teachers to improve the use of technology in the classroom; and encouraging families to consider their children and their education when making decisions to move.Multiyear funding will support efforts that include providing technical assistance; offering computer summer camp to selected students and computer literacy to teachers and faculty; developing a Web site designed specifically to address the needs of low-income families; and connecting parents to the academic progress of their children.During the past year, activities included wiring Washington Elementary School for computer access; delivering low-cost or no-cost computers to targeted families; and providing technical assistance in information technology to entire families.
