About this grant

Enlaces America, a project of the Heartland Alliance, works with community-based organizations in the U.S. and Latin America to build the capacity of immigrant leaders to address the impacts of trade and international finance on their communities and home countries. The goal of the project is to build an informed constituency of immigrant communities and leaders that will advocate for environmentally sustainable regional economic policies.Multiyear funding will enable the project to support the development of an informed constituency in the U.S. that will monitor the impacts of trade agreements; strengthen relationships with environmental organizations; and advocate for environmentally and economically sustainable development policies in the hemisphere.During the past two years, accomplishments included informing key leadership in Central America about the environmental impacts of the Central American Free Trade Agreement and related infrastructure projects; organizing a delegation of 13 Latin American and Caribbean immigrant leaders to attend the Latin American Social Forum; and providing support for community-based activities.
