About this grant
The European Foundation Centre’s (EFC) Europe in the World Initiative is a campaign, launched in 2004, to mobilize leadership, collaboration and partnership among European foundations, and leverage knowledge and networking for global development. The campaign was developed following a feasibility study, conducted in 2000, which showed a need for European foundations to be more involved in international giving.Funding will enable the center to continue efforts to encourage European foundations to increase the expenditure they devote to initiatives outside Europe or within Europe that have a global dimension; act as a catalyst and facilitator for new partnerships and collaborative projects and programs; and promote and support innovation in the management and allocation of foundation resources with a view to increasing existing and new streams of funding for global issues and development.During the first year of the campaign achievements included expanding opportunities for dialogue on global issues; increasing public awareness and informing policymakers about global issues; organizing conferences, seminars and workshops on global issues and challenges; conducting study visits to better understand global problems with a view to initiating jointly funded projects; and developing a Web site portal.
