About this grant
Recently, there has been an increased interest in afterschool programs across the country and the resulting growth of programs has greatly expanded opportunities for children and youth. Despite differences regarding local needs and interests, the programs share common goals, but depend on the availability of an infrastructure that provides access to high-quality training, technical assistance and mentorship, and links organizations together.Multiyear funding will support the establishment of the New York Statewide Afterschool Network. Network goals include fostering statewide, regional and local partnerships that build upon the strengths of existing partnerships at all levels and that represent a diversity of perspectives: promoting statewide standards of quality through a standard assessment; building the capacity of afterschool program providers; and strengthening local and state public and private support for expanding and sustaining high-quality afterschool opportunities. The After-School Corporation was established in 1998 to enhance the availability and quality of afterschool programs in New York City and state. This is one of 18 current grants supporting statewide afterschool networks.
