About this grant
Founded in 1928 as an art school and incorporated in 1930, the Flint Institute of Arts is located in the DeWaters Art Center building on the Flint Cultural Center campus. Following a major building renovation and expansion completed in 2006 that added galleries, additional studio space for the art school, and improved visitor amenities and public areas, the art institute has continued to attract new audiences. Annually, around 150,000 children and adults visit the museum, participate in education programs, register for art classes, or attend events held at the museum. This grant will provide operating support to enable the art institute to present new exhibits that inspire and stimulate patrons, provide educational programming to area students, offer instruction in various art mediums to people of all ages, and maintain its facilities.
