About this grant
Founded in 1928 as an art school and incorporated in 1930, the Flint Institute of Arts is located in the DeWaters Art Center building on the Flint Cultural Center campus. The museum galleries, art school and studio space, and public areas have allowed the grantee to continue to engage patrons and attract new audiences from the region. Annually, more than 150,000 children and adults visit the galleries, participate in education programs, take art classes, or attend events held at the institute. This grant will provide operating support to enable the grantee to present new exhibits that inspire and stimulate patrons, provide educational programming to area students, offer instruction in various art mediums to people of all ages, and maintain its facilities. In 2016, construction of a new hot glass studio and foundry will begin, which will include demonstration space for public viewing and state-of-the-art equipment for glassmaking.
