About this grant
Founded in 1928 as an art school and incorporated in 1930, the Flint Institute of Arts is located in the DeWaters Art Center building on the Flint Cultural Center campus. The museum galleries, art school and studio space, and public areas have allowed the art institute to continue to engage patrons and attract new audiences from the region. Annually, more than 150,000 children and adults visit the galleries, participate in educational programs, take art classes, or attend events held at the institute. This grant will provide operating support to enable the art institute to present new exhibits that inspire and stimulate patrons, provide educational programming to area students, offer instruction in various art mediums to people of all ages, and maintain its facilities. In 2017, the museum will complete construction on a new hot glass studio and foundry, which will include demonstration space for public viewing and state-of-the-art equipment for glassmaking.
