About this grant
In 2005, the Flint Institute of Music (FIM) completed a renovation and expansion of the Dort Music Center on the Flint Cultural Center campus to increase its capacity to better serve its students and patrons. This grant will provide operating support for FIM to allow for diversification and improve the quality of programs offered by FIM’s Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA); expand outreach efforts into local K-12 schools and attract more nontraditional students; and offer continued support for the Flint Symphony Orchestra (FSO).With roots going back to 1917, FIM was incorporated in 1971 through the merger of FSO and the Flint Community Music Association. It currently consists of FSO and FSPA, the largest performing arts school in Michigan.
