About this grant
With its origin going back to 1917, the Flint Institute of Music offers the community a wide array of music, dance, and theater instruction and performances. A major renovation and expansion of the Dort Music Center on the cultural center campus was completed in 2005 to improve the facility to better serve students and patrons. During the past year, nearly 300,000 children and adults participated in or attended the grantee’s performing arts activities, both onsite and throughout the community. Increasing operating costs, expanded programming and outreach activities, reduced support from longstanding supporters, and a greater demand for tuition assistance are increasing challenges facing the institution. This grant will provide operating support to the Flint Institute of Music to allow it to continue to provide quality programs through its Flint School of Performing Arts, the Flint Symphony Orchestra, and the Flint Youth Theatre.
