About this grant
The Flint Institute of Music (FIM) operates in the Dort Music Center on the Flint Cultural Center campus. FIM provides instrumental instruction and performance opportunities to Flint area residents, as well as dance, voice and choral instruction, and a wide variety of outreach activities for K-12 school children through the Flint School of Performing Arts. Multiyear funding will support a renovation project to expand the music center and enable FIM to better serve its students and patrons. Funding will provide partial operating support during construction.FIM, which began with the founding of the Flint Community Music Association in 1917, annually provides instruction to nearly 3,000 students, along with music and dance performances to approximately 225,000 Flint area residents.
