About this grant
The Community Law and Rural Development Center, established in 1989, provides paralegal services, training and education on human rights, and capacity building for community-based organizations through 30 advice offices throughout KwaZulu-Natal. Funding will enable the center to improve the services provided to poor, rural and marginalized communities by forming clusters with other legal and community institutions, such as the Legal Aid Board, university law clinics and other paralegal units.Recent achievements included opening more than 1,900 new cases; conducting more than 200 community workshops on various subjects; providing training, education and capacity building; disseminating information on rights and how to access basic services; and converting seven paralegal offices into resource centers for local communities.
