About this grant
The Community Law and Rural Development Centre promotes an environment for equitable access to justice for rural and marginalized communities in the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces.Multiyear funding will enable the center to provide support to paralegals and advice centers across the two provinces, enabling them to educate communities about their rights and how to access them. Recent activities included assisting thousands of poor people to access legal services and recover monies owed to them; resolving community conflicts through alternative dispute resolution methods; encouraging communities to participate in local government planning processes; raising the awareness of communities about their legal and human rights; and providing training and support to paralegals and paralegal management committees to ensure that they are able to effectively discharge their duties.
