About this grant
The Community Law and Rural Development Centre supports communities in rural and marginalized areas of the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces to access their rights by supporting 35 advice offices based within these communities. Paralegals within these advice offices handle various matters on behalf of community members, including access to social security information, unemployment insurance claims, unfair dismissals in the workplace and other labor matters, and compensation for road accidents. This grant will help to strengthen advice offices through training of paralegals and providing hands-on support to ensure that they provide relevant and effective services to communities. It will also introduce new programs that build on its experiences to ensure that community members are able to access basic services from their local governments and resources for community development and poverty eradication projects. This will be accomplished in partnership with local actors including chiefs and community-based organizations.
