About this grant
CIVICUS: The World Alliance for Citizen Participation, will hold its annual World Assembly in Botswana, from March 21-25, 2004. Since this will be the first world assembly conducted in Africa, it presents a unique opportunity for African nonprofit organizations to participate. This grant will support efforts to enable nonprofit representatives from South Africa and the region to take part in the conference.Funding will support travel costs, accommodation and registration fees for 80 civil representatives from the region, including some Mott grantees from South Africa. The theme of the assembly is "Working Together for a Just World," focusing on how to make sure that traditionally excluded groups, such as women, indigenous people and developing countries are not further marginalized by globalization. The conference will include plenary sessions, learning exchanges and capacity-building programs that highlight civil society’s role in promoting social justice.CIVICUS, founded in 1993, is an international alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world.
