About this grant

The Sector Employment Leadership Institute at Aspen Institute was created to improve the capacity of the workforce development field through leadership training. The launch of the Sector Skills Academy will enable workforce development leaders to enhance sectoral employment practices in their respective communities.Funding will support efforts to improve economic opportunities available to low-income individuals by cultivating the number and diversity of leaders with abilities to succeed in using sector approaches; helping senior managers of organizations using a sector approach to build the organizational capacity of their institutions to achieve change; creating a learning community of leaders using the sectoral approach who have a vision of the broader field and are able to explain the approach to those within and outside the field; and providing leaders opportunities for continuous learning and renewed dedication to their work.During the past year, accomplishments included holding two meetings with leaders in the field to discuss what has been learned about sector work and envision the future of the field; and exploring the design of the Sector Skills Academy through research, interviews and a survey of potential participants.
