About this grant

The Mobile Bay Basin is host to one of the greatest arrays of aquatic freshwater species in the continental U.S. Yet the region has experienced a staggering loss of biodiversity that can primarily be attributed to the habitat loss and fragmentation caused by dams and other modifications to rivers and streams. The relicensing of several hydropower facilities in the basin provides a valuable opportunity to improve conditions for the wealth of remaining freshwater species. This grant will enable the World Wildlife Fund’s Southeastern Rivers and Streams Program to promote the protection and enhancement of aquatic ecosystems during the relicensing processes under way in the Mobile Bay Basin.
