About this grant
This grant will enable the Southern Education Foundation to hold its annual Education Summers Youth Leadership Initiative, an internship program that allows talented students enrolled in southern colleges and universities to learn about past and current patterns of educational inequality. The goals of the program are to help young people learn about the past in order to better understand current problems; expose them to careers in education and the nonprofit sector; and provide summer help to nonprofit organizations involved in education reform in the South.Funding will support the 2005 internship program, including the application and selection process, orientation, stipends, and an evaluation. The program will focus on the nonprofit sector while examining contemporary southern issues related to education policy and practice.
