About this grant
ReStore, a retail business for quality used and surplus building materials, has become a success in generating earned revenue for local Habitat for Humanity chapters, while providing quality housing material at a fraction of the retail cost. Michigan currently has ReStore outlets in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Port Huron and Saginaw. The most successful ReStores raise enough earned revenue to build 10 houses each year.Funding will enable the Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (GCHH) to establish a ReStore outlet to provide affordable construction materials for low-income Flint residents while providing earned revenue for GCHH. In addition, the ReStore will supply surplus building materials to neighborhood development groups and housing nonprofits.GCHH is a nonprofit organization that builds and rehabilitates houses through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials. It is one of more than 1,900 affiliates of Habitats for Humanity International.
