About this grant
The Humanitarian Law Center, a human rights organization in the Western Balkans, is in the process of transitioning into an institution whose purpose is to research and document humanitarian law and human rights abuses stemming from violent regional conflicts during the past 15 years. The center currently is developing a core set of program activities related to documentation and truth-telling that will underpin its work during the next several years. Activities will focus on stimulating the process for addressing the past and building a peaceful, democratic future for Serbia and Montenegro and the Western Balkans.Multiyear funding will support activities including developing, organizing and making accessible information related to war crimes and other grave violations of humanitarian law and human rights; creating an oral history methodology and undertaking oral history projects focused on key events during the past decade; working with victims and witnesses to enable them to participate in war crimes trials and other public events; promoting regional cooperation; and providing staff development and training.
