About this grant

The overall program goal is to establish the conditions for dealing with the past in Serbia and the broader region. To this end, the Humanitarian Law Center researches and documents war crimes and other human rights abuses stemming from the regime of Slobodan Milosevic in Serbia and the violent conflicts in the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s. Over the past two years, the center built an extensive archive of documentation; increased the archive’s accessibility to researchers, prosecutors, and decisionmakers; and supported efforts to raise public awareness about issues of truth, justice, and reconciliation. During the grant period, the center will focus on continuing to build its archive and improve accessibility, establishing a regional coalition of organizations addressing dealing with the past issues, and building the center’s organizational and programmatic capacities. The center is based in Belgrade, Serbia, and has a field office in Pristina, Kosovo.
