About this grant

The Flint Healthcare Sector Initiative (FHSI) works with a cross-section of organizations involved in Flint’s education and workforce development systems to provide entry-level healthcare employment to low-income residents. Recently, the Greater Flint Health Coalition, which has served as the lead agency for the FHSI since its inception, has identified the need for expanded career ladder opportunities for program graduates. The Career Ladder Scholarship Fund will provide entry-level employees with continuing education and a career path.Multiyear funding will provide educational scholarships for people who have successfully completed the requirements of the FHSI and have gained employment at Genesys, Hurley or McLaren medical centers. A selection committee will be established to determine eligibility and monitor participants’ academic performance. An estimated 80 FHSI graduates will be eligible to participate in this program. The Greater Flint Health Coalition was created in 1992 to improve the health status of Genesee County residents and to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of the healthcare delivery system.
