About this grant
Community foundations need minority leaders who can offer relevant experience, knowledge and perspective to address a variety of issues at the local level. The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) works to address the issue of minority under-representation in nonprofit academic programs and in the nonprofit sector’s professional positions.Funding will support the creation of a one-year fellowship in the graduate program at the center to enable a minority student to specialize in community foundation work. The fellow will be a U.S. resident, complete nonprofit coursework on campus and then be placed as an intern in a community foundation. This experience will provide the fellow with an in-depth understanding of the philanthropic sector and operation of community foundations.IUPUI seeks to raise educational achievement and intellectual aspiration in Indianapolis, the state and beyond through leadership and access.
