About this grant
In an effort to describe and reflect new forms of social participation and philanthropic engagement, the goal of the Global Civil Society Yearbook is to raise awareness of and legitimize the link between civil society and globalization. The yearbook is a joint project of the Centre for the Study of Global Governance at the London School of Economics and the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) Center for Civil Society.Multiyear funding will support the publication of global civil society yearbooks for 2004 and 2005, highlighting projects, activities, events and issues with a special emphasis on the role of philanthropy in the globalizing world. The yearbooks will inform policymakers and practitioners about philanthropic institutions, non-governmental organizations and individuals working on specific projects and activities; and provide philanthropists and nonprofit leaders with information on key issues facing global civil society. The Center for Civil Society, housed in UCLA’s School of Public Policy and Social Research, works to improve the understanding of civil society, nonprofit organizations and philanthropy; inform policymaking; improve organizational and policy effectiveness; and monitor major developments affecting civil society.
