About this grant
This grant will support the efforts of the Center for Rural Assistance to strengthen a network of Romanian community development organizations; publish a white paper on the status of rural development in Romania; participate in rural policy development; and monitor the implementation of government rural development programs. In addition, the center will develop and promote professional standards for community development workers.Recent accomplishments include strengthening Romanian community development organizations; promoting community development vis-à-vis donors and decisionmakers; and cooperating with other relevant networks active at the national and international levels. The center was established in 2000 to support the development of rural communities in Romania by increasing their capacity to manage resources to address local needs. In 2002, the center initiated RuralNet – an informal network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) active in the field of rural and community development – to strengthen learning and exchange of best practices among these NGOs and to influence development policies and practices in Romania. Currently, there are 24 NGOs participating in the network.
