About this grant
The Community Organisation Urban Resource Centre provides support to networks of urban and rural poor communities across South Africa. The centre encourages these networks to learn from one another and to use their collective power to advocate for support for community-initiated development projects, particularly housing projects, from government and other stakeholders. Past support enabled the centre to assist communities living in informal settlements to access land and basic services for housing. The centre also conducted research and disseminated findings on the plight of the homeless in South African towns and cities. This grant will support the centre to continue its work to improve the living conditions of people in informal settlements by facilitating various community-driven processes and the establishment of a network of community-based organizations that represent the needs of poor people.
