About this grant
The Community Organisation Resource Centre works to improve the quality of life for poor people living in slums across South Africa. The grantee assists communities to develop tools, knowledge, and resources that can be used to engage government on issues related to housing and settlement upgrading. As part of the South African Alliance of Shack Dwellers International, the grantee provides technical support to the alliance and facilitates access to local government structures. Past support has enabled the grantee to support networks of informal settlements to set up a finance facility to fund informal settlement upgrading projects, partner with local municipalities on informal settlement upgrading and housing projects, and develop the leadership within the network and communities to engage with local authorities. This grant will support the grantee to continue to develop the capabilities of community-based organizations and community networks, and support pro-poor and people-centered development projects that respond to the need for decent living areas.
