About this grant
The Community Organisation Resource Centre works to improve the quality of life for people living in slums across South Africa. It supports movements and networks of slum dwellers to enable them to engage government on the improvement of their living areas. The grantee supports the Federation of the Urban Poor and the Informal Settlement Network. It is part of Shack Dwellers International—a network of community-based organizations of the urban poor in 32 countries and hundreds of cities and towns across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Previous support has enabled the grantee to build strong social movements of slum dwellers, promote co-productive partnerships between the movements and municipalities, and support women’s groups to build their income-generating initiatives and contribute to a savings fund. This grant will enable the grantee to continue supporting networks of slum dwellers and building linkages between government and communities. In addition, the grantee will build knowledge and refine tools that are used by networks to engage with government on their informal settlement improvement work.
