About this grant
In order to support the global development of philanthropy, this grant will enable the University of Bologna’s master’s program in international studies in philanthropy to create a partnership with South Africa’s University of KwaZulu-Natal. Funding will support the development of the master’s program through a 16-month fellowship for a South African student; a two-week guest lectureship by Professor Maharaj, a faculty member of the University of KwaZulu-Natal; and publication of a book that includes a chapter by Professor Maharaj. The 16-week program, developed in association with the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, is limited to 27 students, mostly from Italy but also from Germany, Switzerland and the United States. The University of Bologna, founded in 1088, began offering the master’s program in 2003.
