About this grant

In 2001, the Support Center for Nonprofit Management partnered with the Coalition for New Philanthropy to conduct a multiyear and multifaceted project connecting community assets in the African-American, Latino and Asian-American communities in New York City with needs in those ethnic communities. During the first phase of the project, activities focused on developing and strengthening donor educational and outreach programs within the three communities.Funding will support the second phase of the project by providing donors with tools and information to increase the impact of their individual and collective philanthropy. Objectives include adapting the most successful donor presentations from the first phase into formal curriculum materials; developing advanced donor education programs and testing them in New York to create new curriculum materials; disseminating research findings and evaluation data collected during the first phase; building capacity among the three ethnic coalition partners for charitable asset development; and expanding culturally appropriate strategies for developing charitable assets. The goal of the center is to strengthen the capacity of nonprofit and public interest organizations to fulfill their missions and vitalize their communities. It provides training and consulting; disseminates information and practical resources to the sector; and works to build strategic alliances.
