About this grant
WAVE is a nonprofit organization that develops and supports community-based programs — focused on education and job training — for youth who have dropped out of school and are at risk. WAVE has served more than 125,000 disadvantaged youth during the past six years, but it has accrued more than $1 million in debt because of a long legal and administrative dispute with the U.S. Department of Labor.Funding will be used to leverage the reduction of debt obligations and establish a reserve account. A financial plan has been developed to reduce debt by two-thirds, while maintaining a reserve account to help with cash flow. The mission of WAVE (Work, Achievement, Values & Education), established in 1969, is to motivate youth to complete school, lead productive lives and make a valuable contribution to their communities.
