About this grant

The Joe McNeely Fund for Leadership Advancement will be established to honor Joe McNeely’s contribution to the Development Training Institute (DTI) and the broader community development field. As founder and president of DTI, McNeely has continually worked to analyze and anticipate new trends and practices that affect community development and integrate these findings into DTI’s training and methodologies programs.Funding will support the fund, the goals of which are to create a new generation of leadership in the community development field, particularly inclusive of people of color; promote practitioner-based research; encourage regional approaches to problem solving; and address the demand for lifelong and distance learning by the community development field. DTI was established in 1981 to train neighborhood organizers to be successful community developers. Since then, DTI has created hundreds of local training efforts and helped more than 10,000 individuals through training and technical assistance.
