About this grant
This grant will enable Washington University to design, implement and study a model of children’s savings accounts through its Saving for Education, Entrepreneurship and Downpayment (SEED) Universal Policy Initiative. The goal of the initiative is to develop a model that builds on existing, centralized policy structures; requires few additional costs; and is available to all children in the United States.Multiyear funding will support a competitive selection process, through which one state will be selected to demonstrate a universal savings model. Once the state has been selected, the university will work with state treasurers and state college savings (529) plan administrators and providers to design the policy model that will be implemented and studied. The Center for Social Development, established in 1994 as a research and policy center, is part of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis.
