Leadership Institute

About this grant

Because many nonprofit organizations are not prepared to meet the challenge of balancing their missions with accountability and effectiveness, the Michigan Nonprofit Association is creating a series of leadership development programs through its newly established Leadership Institute. The goal of the institute is to encourage long-term accountability, effectiveness and commitment among professional nonprofit leaders.Multiyear funding will enable the institute to provide a series of leadership development programs to meet the needs and interests of nonprofit professionals at three career stages — emerging leaders, new executives and seasoned executives; create organizational assessment and accountability tools; and develop a range of organizational services and trainings that focus on board capacity and effectiveness. Specific activities will include finalizing an assessment tool, “Hallmarks,” to make it available statewide by fall 2004; adopting a framework of standards for nonprofit accountability; and providing training and consultations to 25 nonprofit boards of directors annually.The Michigan Nonprofit Association was established in 1995 to promote the awareness and effectiveness of Michigan’s nonprofit sector and to promote volunteerism and philanthropy in the state.
