About this grant

Every spring and summer, the city of Flint contracts for mowing and clean up of vacant lots throughout the city. Employing local youth to help maintain the lots through the Youth Clean Up Project will benefit the city both environmentally and economically. The project will defray the city’s maintenance costs and provide Flint youth with summer employment and a sense of community pride.Funding will enable Flint youth between the ages of 16 and 21 to help maintain vacant lots within the city. The city plans to hire five youth crews, each having five members. One youth in each group will be chosen to be the group leader and will be given additional responsibilities in assisting the adult supervisor in managing site-specific clean-up operations. The city of Flint, founded in 1855, has been a Mott grantee since 1937.
