About this grant
The Michigan Leadership Development Program was established to encourage learning, civic engagement and leadership among young, creative and dynamic Michigan residents. However, a major drawback to the program has been a lack of financial aid for participants.Funding will provide stipends to enable 25 students and young professionals to participate in the program, which involves working in various divisions of the executive office of the governor for a 10- to 12-week period in the summer. The program offers insights into state government through weekly seminars, community service projects and opportunities to attend legislative sessions. A recruitment strategy will ensure that candidates reflect the population diversity of Michigan. The Capital Region Community Foundation is a Michigan public charity serving counties, which surround the state capital.
