About this grant
In 2004, the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices provided support for 12 governors’ summits with funding from the Mott and Wallace Foundations. This initiative was so successful that support for another six governors’ summits in 2005 was requested and 10 proposals were identified from a pool of sixteen proposals to host 2005 afterschool summits. This grant increase will enable the center to support an additional four summits, with the other six summits funded through existing resources. Each summit will convene a range of state and local partners to devise a shared agenda for improving the quantity and quality of afterschool programs in the state. The governors’ summits will emphasize state and local collaboration opportunities that strengthen links between afterschool programs, improve student academic performance, and increase positive youth development.
