About this grant

This grant will enable the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices to continue assisting governors and their policy advisors to address education and other policy challenges through afterschool activities. Project goals include providing assistance and grants to states to hold governors’ summits to advance state afterschool policies; supplying targeted technical assistance to governors’ offices; publishing two issue briefs on how afterschool programs can support state initiatives; supporting redevelopment of a Web site to provide information on afterschool policy solutions and research; and continuing to provide support to the statewide afterschool networks through the Afterschool Technical Assistance Collaborative, a group of national organizations working to support the development of statewide networks through technical assistance. The center will also co-implement a project with the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Conference of State Legislatures to provide intensive technical assistance on furthering afterschool policies with state leadership teams comprised of state legislators, education chiefs, governors’ policy advisors and statewide afterschool network leaders.
