About this grant
The next year is a critical period in the ongoing development of environmental and social policies at international financial institutions. The approval of the International Finance Corporation’s (the private sector lending arm of the World Bank) performance standards will launch a number of other review processes for export credit agencies as well as private banks that have adopted the Equator Principles. In addition, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will continue to work to improve the International Finance Corporation’s standards as they are adopted and monitor implementation of these new standards. This grant will enable Peregrine Environmental Consulting (PEC) to take advantage of this opportunity by providing research, policy analysis and coordination for NGOs working to strengthen global environmental standards for public and private lending institutions.During the past year, PEC worked to improve the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standard Review consultation process by ensuring that the review period was extended, securing the release of critical documents and expanding the number of NGO consultations. PEC also worked to expand the type and number of organizations involved in international financial institution reform, including groups concerned with biodiversity conservation and toxics.
