About this grant

As the International Finance Corporation (IFC) revises and updates its safeguard policies, as well as its information disclosure policy and pollution prevention and abatement handbook, Peregrine Environmental Consulting (PEC) will work to build stronger standards for global financial organizations. Since the IFC is the leading environmental and social standard-setter for international project finance, the revision process will have major consequences for international financial institutions, export credit agencies, commercial banks and corporations, and may affect the development of national laws and policies in developing countries. Funding will enable PEC to establish new benchmarks for global environmental standards for international financial institutions and private-sector lending in developing countries. Activities will include organizing a global coalition on IFC safeguards and standards; coordinating working groups around key issues; arranging technical input for revising pollution standards; and working with IFC’s board, management and staff.
