About this grant
The National Community Education Association (NCEA), established in 1966, promotes community involvement in public education; interagency cooperation to address community needs; and learning opportunities in the community for all residents regardless of their age, economic status and educational background. Since the beginning of the Mott/U.S. Department of Education partnership on the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, NCEA has worked to help afterschool providers understand the principles of community education needed to build effective learning communities.Multiyear funding will enable NCEA to identify outstanding programs that have either adopted the concept of community education into their afterschool programs or adopted afterschool programs into their community education program. Activities will include creating an advisory committee; finding programs that meet the criteria; conducting site visits; and publishing and disseminating a report. Funding will also support a national search for an executive director to replace the retiring director.
