About this grant

This grant will provide renewal support to the Connect US Fund, a funding collaborative of the Tides Foundation. Other contributors to the fund are the Ford and Hewlett Foundations, Open Society Institute, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The goal of Connect US is to promote a vision of responsible global engagement in which United States’ power and influence are employed in a manner perceived worldwide as legitimate and responsive to the interests of major stakeholders in the international community. In 2004 and 2005, Connect US awarded 72 grants to support the advocacy efforts of 56 organizations and helped build approximately nine new partnerships, particularly among organizations based in Washington, D.C., and grassroots groups working in other parts of the country. In 2007 and 2008, Connect US will undertake a $7 million program of grantmaking and operational activities to help inform the public debate leading to the change in administration in 2009. Since 1976, the Tides Foundation has worked with donors to strengthen community-based organizations and the progressive movement through innovative grantmaking and philanthropic services.
