About this grant

The Connect US project — made up of the Connect US Network and the Connect US Fund — is based on the vision of the United States taking a role in creating a more just, sustainable and peaceful world. By establishing and maintaining a collective of organizations working on these issues, the effectiveness and impact of individual group’s efforts are increased. The fund was established to support the network by supplying resources for joint planning and action. Multiyear funding will contribute to the fund, which will have an estimated $1.5 million available for grantmaking in 2004. Grantmaking guidelines were developed to promote innovative, nonprofit-driven initiatives. The Tides Foundation has been working with donors to strengthen community-based organizations through creative grantmaking since 1976. In addition to Mott, members of the funding collaborative include the Open Society Institute, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
